Solace of the Shadows

Lack of sleep can seriously get to you. Been sleeping pretty late the past few days and the effects are pretty noticable. This is the usual routine on a weekday when i have to get up for work.
1. Set handphone alarm at 8.10am the night before
2. Alarm rings at 8.10am, subsequently gets smashed (this explains why my phone doesn't work properly)
3. Drag my ass to the couch, take out the Life! section of the papers while eating breakfast
4. Fall asleep while reading the comics section for 5-10mins
5. Finish eating, take a bath and rush out of the office
6. Sleep as long as possible in the bus
7. Reach office around 9.45am
I miss my bed.
Wednesday night was spent going to a random gig held at Aloha Changi together with Arzish, Lan and Ahmad. The whole concept for the place was pretty cool. The stage where the bands played was set up with the sea and the shore just behind, which acted as a really nice backdrop. The sea was shimmering from the moon shining from above. Only 3 bands played though and unfortunately, thanks to my impeccable sense of (mis)timing, i came late (as usual) together with Arzish, we took a cab down. I realize several elements contribute to the success of a gig. These can include, 1) good music (duh), 2) food and 3) pretty ladies. Combined, you get something like : Sitting down listening to bands play while stuffing your face with food watching pretty ladies walk past. All that for the low low price of 7 bucks. Good deal. Speaking of food, i tried dry mee siam with mayonaise. Surprisingly a pretty good combi. Or maybe its because mayo goes well with almost anything.
A pity the bands didn't play longer. Although the last band really wasn't too fantastic. My policy is that if you can't sing you don't have to tell the rest of the world that by doing so. I can't sing if you pointed a gun to my head, and thats the reason why my ass was placed on the grass watching, and not performing like a monkey on crack. I'm referring to the vocalist of the last band which performed. The guy lost his voice completely whilst trying to sing 'the reason' by Hoobastank until i couldn't differentiate between the frogs croaking and the sound coming out of his mouth.
Other moments included starting a very random brawl sparked off between Ahmad, Arzish and Roslan who started running around kicking and punching each other before Arzish charged and tackled Roslan to the ground. A random guy handed Roslan a chair and was like "here use this!". WTF? Unfortunately i was too slow in joining in so i didn't get any action heh. Arzish sustained the most injuries for the night. Amazing. First was a nipple twisting from his friend at the airport. Second was the arm dislocating itself while asking me to sit down next to him on the grass (ow), third was his ear bleeding after tackling Roslan and rolling on the grass with him like two deprived lovers. I think we are all very troubled individuals.
You must be wondering what the heck that's gotta do with the gig. Don't worry, i don't know either. But it was a pretty fun night.
Which brings me to my first point, i need more sleep...

How could i forget that one year and one day ago, i was rendered a partial cripple, unable to walk for 6 months of the entire year. Its been that long, that quick. Not too quick to forget being grateful for the simple things (like walking on two legs), i hope. I will also remember those who were there and bothered to give a damn, and those who weren't and didn't. That's one period of my life i'd have to look through from time to time. 16th of May, 2003. Boy, does that sound overly dramatic or what.
Its been an eventful week. Went out almost everyday after work, which meant a severe lack of sleep. But went out with the regular folks and met up with some folks i haven't seen in a long time so it was all good. Went for training in the morning today followed by an afternoon catching up with Fatin and Val. It was a good Sunday too.
The law of polarity demands that when one has a good week, it is subsequently followed by a bad one. Thus i am bracing myself for a horrible time in the office. Oh well. Up to the individual to make things happen somehow. I think i'll lay low for a while. Home Sweet Home.

The hell with Kill Bill Vol. 2 and all, just catch Zatoichi. Quirky, whimsical, refreshing. Awesome show. Where do you think Quentin Tarawhatshisnameicantspellit got his inspiration from anyway; flicks such as these.
I think the guy in that movie is really pretty. haha.

Another week in the office. Another week surrounded by files, mountains of paper and calls from random people. Although on the general view of things, it ain't too bad. Sometimes, sitting alone in the office blasting Arch Enemy and Green Day, (hmm..where did Green Day come from?!) staring at the computer screen and eventually dozing off during lunch breaks can be quite comforting.
One person who carries the potential to make my week a miserable or enjoyable one is none other than my boss, Head Operations & Training, for my division. (i shall not disclose his name in case for some strange reason he searches for it) Up til now, i still have many doubts as to his true character. At times, he may seem overly demanding but yet during a period of time when he was on a long MC, his absence presented a gaping hole in the working environment. Strangely enough, he actually provides some sort of stability when he's around. On the other hand, he can be extremely clumsy and absent-minded. (he’s a hugeass guy with a turban, who looks pretty intimidating actually if you don’t know him) The reason why he landed himself a month long MC was when he injured himself quite seriously walking up a friggin flight of stairs and subsequently tearing some nerve in his knee, landing himself in hospital for a while. Even when he walks down the corridor, there is a high tendency he may trip himself and stumble. Makes one wonder how the hell he manages to run 2.4km or even do a pull-up for that matter. It could be due to his impressive speaking skills. Gotta hand it to the guy for being a really confident speaker. Must be why he’s a designated crisis negotiation officer.
Other areas he excels in :
Losing Files
HOT : Jame, could you please open up a file on the Pasir Panjang Wharves, print and enclose the documents inside and hand it over to me asap?
Me : Sir, I passed you the file yesterday personally.
HOT : Huh? Where is it then?
Me : (lifts off a few files on his desk) Errr….Sir, its right here.
Assuming
HOT : Jame, have you taken a look at the files Planning Department prepared for the previous meeting? Very organized. You should learn from this man!
Me : Err, yeah Sir I know. I helped to prepare the files for that meeting while you were in hospital.
HOT : Oh………ok. Well I’m off for lunch.
And that’s a brief introduction of my boss to prepare for future rants about him. Next installation in this series, the psycho bitch from hell, OOP.
In the meantime, enjoy the week folks, wherever you may be.
